Cedar Farm has been a hub for artisans and creatives for both locals and people travelling to Mawdesley near Ormskirk since 1987.
Cedar Farm Gallery and Frame Shop sells soaps, cards, jewellery, crockery, toys and a big selection of art materials which are all useful for our workshops. These include Winsor and Newton calligraphy and drawing ink, posca liquid chalk pens along with pads of black and white paper.
Cedar Farm Galleries is where all the local artisan and independent shops are located. Whether looking for a gift for a loved one or a treat for yourself! Along with the various shops, there are lots of crafts and art based workshops on offer to get your creative juicing going in both the courses room and the gallery.
But if you're more in the mood for food, the monthly Farmers Markets may be more down your street - can't get much better than local produce!
On our latest workshop, we hosted our Introductory Brush Lettering in a new room for us; the courses room in the Pig Barn! A brill space with plenty of soothing natural light and not to mention plenty of elbow room. The Pig Barn is also home to a hairdressers, glass makers and beautician which gives a nice vibe throughout.
In our Brush Lettering workshops with Beverley Mellor and Polly Mellor of Mellor and Rose at Cedar Farm, we learn all the basics of this stylish on-trend lettering style; how to use a Tombow ABT Brush Pen, form strokes and letters from our full upper and lower alphabets sheets.
During the workshop, we'll learn in detail the fundamental technique by understanding the pressure techniques used to produce the characteristic contrasting lettering style.
Alongside learning the basics of this modern lettering style, we'll delve into the design and layout elements of lettering - spacing and sizing of lettering and words to make a truly aseptically pleasing piece of art.
With full modern calligraphy alphabet from trace to letters - by the end of the workshop you will be well on your way to creating your own great brush lettering.
We had a lovely full workshop on Thursday evening at Cedar Farm - a couple of familiar faces along with plenty of new calligraphers! A brill start for everyone, especially with no lettering experience before coming to the workshop.
We're already looking forward to seeing your designs and putting your own twist on the pieces!
